Tom Bierovic grew up in Markham, Illinois, a small town west of Chicago. Tom earned his B.A. from Central College in Pella, Iowa, with a major in English and minors in religion and philosophy. He received a Master’s degree in education from LaVerne University in LaVerne, California, and a Master of Divinity degree from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky.

While in seminary, Tom served as pastor of Mill Creek Christian Church in Mays Lick, Kentucky. He was ordained to Christian ministry at Central Christian Church in Lexington. Before coming to Shelbyville, Tom served as senior minister at Stokesdale Christian Church in Stokesdale, North Carolina. He began his ministry at First Christian Church in Shelbyville on January 1, 2012.

Tom and his wife Laurie also celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in January, 2012. Tom and Laurie met at Our Savior’s Church in Lakewood, Colorado in 1970, when Tom was serving there as youth minister. After they were married, Tom taught middle-school English for several years and then made a living trading stocks and commodities and teaching other people how to trade. Laurie worked in banking for many years and then joined Tom in their trading and consulting business.

Tom and Laurie were living in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and were members at Tropical Sands Christian Church when, at age 55, Tom discerned God’s call to enter seminary and become an ordained minister. While Tom was a seminary student, Laurie worked in the education department at Hospice of the Bluegrass in Lexington.

Tom and Laurie hope to serve in ministry at First Christian Church in Shelbyville for the rest of their working life. They’re enjoying their new home, new community, and new church and feel very blessed to be here!

In their free time, Tom enjoys reading, playing backgammon, playing and collecting Native American flutes, and listening to all kinds of music. Laurie is also an avid reader and music lover, and she enjoys homemaking activities like cooking, decorating, sewing, and gardening.
